I wish my camera could have caught how *shiny* both these outfits were. I suppose at the end of the day though, if I had the figure these girls had I wouldn't give a toss what I threw on top of it either.
As a yank I'm floored when it comes to the fashion (ie lack of clothing) that young British gals wear. My niece is only fifteen, but dresses like a streetwalker...which is apparently ok by her parents, and quite the norm in her part of the UK. I am by no means a prude, but I'm dumbstruck; everything I want to say to my niece, or her folks, sounds like something my grandmother would have said. It's not just the skanky attire though. Drinking at a young age seems culturally alright there as well. Is there room for tomboys in the UK? What is up with underage drinking and dressing like back alley hookers? And, if I end up raising a daughter in the UK, what the fuck, do they all end up like clubbers?
Anon: It does seem to be quite normal for girls in their teens to barely wear anything, and usually all year round; even when the weather calls for jackets and mittens they will be out in strapless you-can-barely-call-it dresses.
And yes, they start drinking young as well. They are legally allowed to drink in bars\pubs\clubs at 18. However, like my husband will attest, many start at 15. My cousin (who lived in the UK during his teens) would always say, "if you are old enough to stand at the bar with money in your hand, they'll serve you."
I'm sure there are tomboys here, I just personally haven't seen them. I don't think they would be called tomboys really, probably just 'sporty' or something. Generally speaking, women usually don't wear sweatshirts and hoodies out of the house. While I'm very comfortable in the States going out in my Packers hoodie to the grocery store, here I wouldn't dream of doing it as the last time I did people just stared at me. I appeared to stick out like a big ole American.
The one on the right has somehow found identical sandals to ones I had when I was in my teens. That would be a long time ago. I can imagine how shiny that fabric is. I never had any clothing that shiny.
Wait! What? No hoodies? I'm screwed. I thought Liverpool had some grungy-hipster fashion goin' on when I was there, some folks looked very NW. I'm just gonna' pretend hoodies are part of an "artsy" thing I'm goin' for then.
...remembering now that it was only guys that were rocking that look. Hmmph. :[

Yeah, those big cork wedge shoes are pretty big right now. I think. I've fallen off the fashion wagon years ago but I do see them all the time.
